First Class 2

September 2020

We have had a great start to 1st class. We begin each morning by reminding ourselves of some positive things we believe about ourselves.  We learned about space and can name the eight planets. We even designed our own planets using oil pastels in art. Thank you to Ms. Walsh who did a yoga class with us. We have also started G.A.A. and our skills are improving. September has been a busy month and we will continue to work hard this year.

November in 1st class:

  • We learned about schools in the past. We wrote a letter to the residents of Glenaulin Nursing Home to ask them for help. They kindly wrote back to us and told us about their time in school. The most surprising parts were that they didn’t do art and they learned to cook and bake at school.

  • In art we have been experimenting with tones of colour and doing winter drawings.

  • In science, we tested some classroom items to see if they are transparent or opaque.

  • We played a matching game with our new words as Gaeilge.

October 2020

October has been a busy month in the lead up to Halloween.

Some of our highlights include:

  • Paper weaving

  • Making spider webs by weaving with wool

  • Painting a night sky with some Halloween bats

  • Finishing our first reader

  • Starting our Mental Maths book

  • An outdoor maths hunt

  • Learning dances in P.E.

  • Learning about houses and homes

  • Chatting about alternative things to do instead of trick or treating

We hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween!

December 2020

We have had a busy and fun month in 1st class. We have been busy preparing for Christmas. We also made bunting to support the Dublin football teams in the All Ireland finals. We worked on adding adjectives to make our sentences more interesting.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
