Discover Primary Science Award 2016

Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Plaque of STEM Excellence

At the beginning of May this year, St. Brigid's G.N.S.  achieved a Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Plaque of STEM Excellence for the 2015/16 academic year. Along with the recognition, this Award brings a range of benefits to the school; it provides a structure for STEM work, raises the profile of science in the school and among parents and increases whole school collaboration.

Some of the activities which the school took part in included, designing and making magnetic cars, designing and making an animation project, making lava lamps and a whole school ‘Show and Tell’.

The children really enjoyed doing the hands on experiments and recording their science activities in a structured way. The children enjoyed them because they provided an opportunity for them to think creatively, to work collaboratively and to experiment. It also gave them the opportunity to work through their ideas and to discuss the results of their experiments with their teacher and classmates and to record their results and then to see their work displayed.

Centenary Day 15.3.16

Celebrations for the 1916 Centenary took place, in school,  on Tuesday 15th March.

The Proclomation was read on the steps of the school by Kate, Áine, Sophie, Hannah, Emma, Amie, Katelynn and Amy from 6th Class. The Irish Tricolour was then raised to a big cheer and afterwards Amhráin na bhfiann was sung.

Parents and other members of the school community were welcomed to tour the displays and work prepared by students to commemorate 1916. Students were on hand to present their work and answer questions about their projects.

Well done to all.

Presentation of the Irish Flag

9th Oct 2015

The girls of St. Brigid’s GNS had a special visit from two members of the Irish Defence Forces on the 9th October 2015. Commandant Will Cummins & Sergeant Leona Walsh from the Irish Air Corps presented our school with our very own Tri-Colour, they read the Proclamation with Jessica, they taught us how to look after our flag and answered lots of interesting questions our girls had to ask. The girls of St. Brigid’s GNS also made a very special presentation in return. All classes helped to make a large Tricolour paper collage which the Student Council presented and spoke about on the day. The St. Brigid’s GNS tri-colour collage is now hanging in the head office of the Irish Air Corps in Casement Aerodrome. We finished up with our School Choir and Ms Baxter leading the whole school in singing our national anthem. Well done to all involved for their hard work and participation in what was a very special & historic school event.
